Leaked Emails Reveal Anti-Bernie Bias at DNC
The correspondence seem to confirm allegations by the defeated Senator Bernie Sanders campaign that the Democratic National Committee was actively rooting for Clinton to win – a revelation that likely will serve as a wedge between the two camps and make it even more hard for Clinton to persuade Sanders voters to get with her.
The latest batch of emails confirms the party establishment was in the tank for Clinton well before the primary had been decided by voters.
Schultz served as co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2008 and has been criticised for her bias against Sanders, the report says.
“It might [make] no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief”, the message says, presumably referring to Kentucky and West Virginia. The email does not mention Sanders by name.
Several factors could make Philadelphia’s protests vastly different than those in Cleveland, including the city’s sprawling protest sites from downtown to the convention site four miles away and the estimated 50,000 protesters each day. “My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist”, DNC chief financial officer Brad Marshall wrote.
Responding to a request for comment, Marshall said in an email to The Intercept, “I do not recall this”. The plan was to spread the rumor that Sanders is an atheist. On-line from Wikileakes, really vicious.
Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in Cincinnati, on Monday. A Real Clear Politics newspaper article said that Sanders’ supporters caused a lack of unity at the Nevada Democratic Convention.
The issue surfaced on Saturday at Clinton’s first campaign event with Tim Kaine as her running mate, when a protester was escorted out of Florida International University in Miami. The protester shouted “DNC leaks” soon after Clinton thanked Wasserman Schultz for her leadership at the DNC. The emails appear to have been stolen by a hacker identified as Guccifer 2.0.
The emails also reveal plotting within the DNC to embarrass GOP candidate Donald Trump, including drafting fake ad to recruit “hot women” to work for Trump. Two separate Russian intelligence-linked cyberattack groups were both in the DNC’s networks.
The emails were released Friday on Twitter by WikiLeaks, which linked readers to a Web page inviting them to search the DNC email database.
