LeBron James announces he’s re-signing with Cavs in video
The four-time NBA MVP will re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he announced Thursday in a video for Uninterrupted.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that it is a three-year, $100 million contract extension.
Upon bringing the Cavaliers and his hometown fans the franchise’s first National Basketball Association title, the 31-year-old is now slated to enter his 14th professional season and third consecutive with Cleveland. His salary for 2017-2018 will be the highest single-season salary in league history, Windhorst reported.
James helped lead the Cavaliers to their first ever NBA championship last season as they came back from being down 3-1 in the NBA Finals to snuff the Golden State Warriors’ attempt at a second straight trophy. Before a massive celebration parade this summer, James told reporters he’s coming back to try for a repeat title.
To the surprise of no one, LeBron James will re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. “We all know a year ago was magical, inspiring, all the words you can come up with, it was an unbelievable season”.
Still, despite giving up some of his leverage, James couldn’t resist making one more demand at the end of his video: Re-sign shooting guard J.R. Smith.
“Let’s get J.R. done”, James said.
The three-time champion averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists in the series and posted a triple-double in Game 7.
