LeBron James’s Company Gets Warner Investment
The project, which is featured on Bleacher Report, is exclusively funded by LeBron with long-time business partner and close friend Maverick Carter playing a key role, and today it was confirmed that Warner Bros. further cemented its support with a $15.8 million investment.
Athletes can make the videos with their smartphones if they choose.
Turner Sports has been hosting Uninterrupted videos on its popular Bleacher Report website. When they started sketching out to us what they could do with more investment, it was a no-brainer. LeBron’s intent was to create a platform where athletes could speak their minds “uninterrupted”.
In addition to having an equity stake in the company, Turner Sports will now serve as the primary sales arm for Uninterrupted.
The additional funding comes with additions to Uninterrupted growing executive team, new president Jamal Henderson, who until recently headed integrated marketing and brand development strategies for PepsiCo. Other hires include Yelp veteran Matthew Trunzo as the head of business development; Amber Mayo, former director of media and partnerships at Samsung Telecommunications America, as head of marketing; and National Basketball Association writer and former Staance product manager, Jimmy Spencer, as head of content. The likes of Ronda Rousey, Serena Williams and James himself have used it. It’s essentially the video equivalent of Derek Jeter’s The Players’ Tribune, where Kobe Bryant delivered the news of his upcoming retirement. James’s SpringHill Entertainment, which produces Survivors’ Remorse and Disney XD’s Becoming, signed a deal with Warner Bros. back in July in order to expand content.
