LeBron James wastes no time, signs 4-year deal with Lakers
After weeks of speculation regarding his future at the Cleveland Cavaliers, three-time NBA Champion LeBron James on Monday announced that he has agreed to join Los Angeles Lakers in a four year, $154 million deal. He left Cleveland for the Miami Heat in 2010 to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh ― the duo won two National Basketball Association championships during their four seasons together before James elected to return to Cleveland.
James will make $25.65 million next season. The big names are still the priority, but the Lakers are doing well to keep an eye on other possibilities as well.
James’ camp also met with the Philadelphia 76ers and was in touch with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible four seasons”, said James on his Instagram account. It also helps that the Lakers are one of the game’s premier franchises.
A lot of fans are shocked by the 33-year old’s move to Los Angeles. He reportedly wants to play for the Lakers, but he is still under contract to the Spurs.
Zlatan welcomed LeBron in the most Zlatan way possible.
Kevin Love is Cleveland’s only major trade chip, assuming No. 8 overall pick Collin Sexton is off the table, and the Cavs aren’t flush with pieces to dangle in return for valuable young players or draft picks.
Compared to his past free-agent decisions, James moved super swiftly – it took him eight days to reveal in 2010 that he was going to Miami, 11 days in 2014 to say he was going back to Cleveland.
The Lakers’ legacy is something that appealed to James and it wasn’t long after his announcement that he heard from Kobe Bryant, who won five titles during 20 seasons with Los Angeles. If the Lakers make an offer, league sources expect it to be a shorter-term max contract for either one or two seasons.
Once James committed to the Lakers, Stephenson was a top player on the team’s priority list. The Lakers have certainly behaved for a while like they know they are getting him, and for their sake, they’d better be right.
