LeBron James wins NBA Finals MVP for 3rd time
Throughout the regular season, playoffs, these Finals, and particularly after the Game 7 win, LeBron spoke of leading the Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors 93-89 to win the National Basketball Association championship.
James lifted the Cavs on his back with one of the greatest championship series in National Basketball Association history, concluding with a triple-double in Sunday’s 93-89 thriller. Green had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists in the first half, numbers that could make him a contender for Finals MVP if the score holds. “I poured my heart, my blood, my sweat and my tears into this game”, an emotional James said, who after the game. But in the Finals, when the Warriors wobbled on their feet once again, James, Irving, and the Cavaliers never let them regroup.
Trailing 3-1 to the reigning champion Golden State Warriors after four games of the finals, the Cavaliers became the first team ever to overturn such a deficit to win the finals. “I don’t know why the man above gave me the hardest road but there’s nothing the man above going to put new situations that you can’t handle”, he shared. It took a flawed hero to fail the first time, then leave and embarrass and anger the city and come back, older, wiser and a better victor. But with the season on the line, Curry and the Warriors produced just six points the rest of the way and were shut out over the last 4:39. “And, uh, Cleveland – this is for you!”
Playing his sixth straight finals, James nearly single-handedly carried the Cavs back into this series and finished with 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds as the Cavs gave their city its first major sports victor since the Browns won the National Football League title in 1964. Cleveland is outscoring Golden State 28-12 in the paint, but the Warriors have a 30-3 edge in scoring from 3-point range. I had to be calm for my 14 guys to play the way they need to play.
Lue himself stepped into the head coaching gig in the middle of the season, after former head coach David Blatt was sacked.
“We made history”, Irving said.
“Well, I mean, at the end of the day you’re down 3-1, and we’ve got to come here”, James said.
Curry’s final 3-pointer started a 7-0 run that enabled the Warriors to take an 87-83 lead with 5:37 left.
“It’s obviously frustrating fouling out in the fourth quarter of a clinching game and not being out there with my teammates”, Curry said following Game 6.
We will hopefully have other chances at being on this stage.
The collapse started when Draymond Green was suspended for hitting James in the groin late in Game 4 and couldn’t be stopped despite a 32-point, 15-rebound, nine-assist performance by Green in Game 7.
As Cleveland celebrated in the trophy ceremony, Green returned to the floor to congratulate the Cavs.
There were a couple of minor incidents outside Oracle Arena after Game 7, but for the most part Oakland was quiet.
To add to this, there is also the endless debate that follows LeBron James wherever he goes.
Kyrie Irving spent the majority of last year’s Finals watching from a hospital bed as he nursed a season-ending knee injury, and, in a lot of ways, him sinking what was essentially the game winning 3-point shot, face-up, in one-on-one isolation against the MVP Stephen Curry was a poetic finish to what was essentially unfinished business from last season.
It will haunt me for a while.
