LeBron James won’t play for USA Basketball at Rio Olympics
After helping Cleveland finally winning an National Basketball Association championship, LeBron James has chose to skip the Olympics.
Per his agent, LeBron James won’t play for Team USA in Rio.
USA Basketball named a 12-man squad for the Games on Monday that didn’t include James, confirming last week’s reports that he had withdrawn from consideration for the team.
He won gold in 2012 and 2008 with US as well as bronze in 2004.
“I could use the rest”, James told Cleveland.com of his decision, citing the grind of having logged so much court time through six consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.
James is just the latest addition to the lengthy list of National Basketball Association superstars who won’t be in the red, white and blue this summer, joining Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, John Wall, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Anthony Davis, and James Harden.
New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has agreed to chase a fourth Olympic medal, a person with knowledge of the details said Thursday.
Kevin Durant confirmed earlier this week that he intends to play in Rio, while sources have told The Undefeated that Paul George, Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins also have committed to the US. Leonard said. “It’s an honor to have been considered for the team and I hope in the future I will have the chance to represent my country”. He, James and Hall of Famer David Robinson are the only Americans to play in three Olympics.
Peace remembers being 19 years old playing a pickup game with James in Chicago, who was 15 at the time, with the greatest player in Chicago Bulls history in Michael Jordan.
Cavs players interacted with fans throughout the parade, with Irving and J.R. Smith, who was smoking a victory cigar, running along the edge of the route and slapping hands with those in attendance.
“You guys are part of the reason I can sit up here and be a world champion and I could bring a championship back to where it’s supposed to be”, James said.
