LeBron to wear Cubs uniform after losing Series bet to Wade
Following LeBron James update on his Sportsperson of the Year award, he becomes the second athlete to win it twice.
The publication pointed to James’ charitable efforts combined with his third National Basketball Association championship run – this time with the Cleveland Cavaliers – as to why he was more deserving than his peers in a historic year for sports. Also considered were the Chicago Cubs, who came from 3-1 down to defeat the Indians in the World Series and end a 108-year drought; seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson; Leicester City, a 5,000-1 shot that won the English Premier League championship; and several Olympians.
James clearly wasn’t thrilled about having to wear a Chicago Cubs uniform after he rooted hard for his hometown Cleveland Indians in the World Series.
The Clippers’ Chris Paul drives around the Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving during the first half on December 1 in Cleveland.
Wade wouldn’t divulge the details of that uniform, only insisting that James was a “stand-up guy, so he’s going to let you guys get your moment, everyone is going to get their moment”.
LeBron can at least take solace in this: He’s really a Yankees fan at heart, so the depth of his despair was only so deep.
Well, LeBron has made good on his bet with Dwyane Wade.
In a year full of stirring and historic performances across all sports, James was transcendent, rallying the Cavaliers from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals to deliver the city of Cleveland’s first championship in a major sport since 1964.
James said winning the award the same year Brown, Russell, and Abdul-Jabbar are honored “means more and it gives me an opportunity to reflect”. The whole thing is great and you should go read it. He always has done that for me and vice versa. I just enjoy it more. I think I’ve done it for him.
James said he’s looking forward to the first of the regular season’s four games against Wade and the Bulls. Green started the round of trash talk by recently telling NBA.com’s David Aldridge, “If Cleveland comes out of the East, I want to destroy Cleveland”. “It’s too much work to be done for me to put myself in that mind frame”.
The new installment, in honor of LeBron being named the 2016 Sportsperson of the Year, is no exception.
James didn’t wear cleats, though, or bring a glove.
“He’s arguably one of the top three to five players to ever play the game, ” Wade said.
