Ledecky and Hosszu win gold as their dominance in the pool continues
The father of Bath swimming sensation Siobhan-Marie O’Connor said he knew she was good enough to win at least a silver medal in her favoured event at Rio 2016.
In the process, she became just the sixth Trojan to win at least three golds in one Games and just the second to win them in individual events.
Hosszu was under world record pace for much of the race and finished in two minutes 06.58 seconds, an Olympic record.
Scots Stephen Milne, Dan Wallace and Duncan Scott alongside Englishman James Guy won silver in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. I’m really pleased to push her as hard as I could’.
“I text her when we got here saying I’ve always wanted to come to Rio, thanks for giving me the opportunity”.
“It doesn’t seem real but seeing my family I was getting choked up”. “Pretty sure that’s the closest I’ve come to throwing up in the middle of a race”, Ledecky said.
The women’s gymnastics team produced a brilliant team performance to finish fifth, while the men’s hockey team routed Brazil 9-1.
“She has a condition but she never moans, she just gets on with it”, Sean added. If I’d only come five or 10 seconds down on him, I may have been questioning whether he could have gone any faster.
The only one of the bunch to do it in three individual events, as Hosszu has done, was Evans, who won the 400m and 800m free and the 400m IM.
“When I looked around and saw the time I was over the moon, I didn’t think I had that time in me”.
O’Connor entered with easily the best time from the semifinals, going 2:07.57 to advance. “She just decided that in such a busy schedule, it would be best to rest and be prepared for the race tonight”.
