LEGO Batman Movie Finds Its Batgirl: Rosario Dawson
The first of the LCU (Lego Cinematic Universe) spinoffs is continuing to slowly build up its voice cast, adding yet another high-profile name.
Dawson will voice Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon who later becomes the crime-fighting heroine Batgirl.
Dawson now plays the key role of Claire Temple in Marvel’s Netflix shows. Zach Galifianakis is playing the Joker. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the masterminds behind the Lego movie franchise, are producing this one, as well.
Dawson, a self-proclaimed comic book fan, is no stranger to comics adaptations. She’s been in the Sin City movies, provided her voice for Wonder Woman in Justice League: Throne of Atlantis and voiced Artemis in Wonder Woman. The genius of The Lego Movie was that it didn’t contradict that impression so much as drag it into a different light, portraying him the way other normal people might see him – as a clueless, self-absorbed, overly serious billionaire who ultimately means well. An untitled LCU film (possibly The Billion Brick Race) is set to launch on May 24, 2019.
The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct The LEGO Batman Movie, which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith.
The film is based on the Lego line of Batman figures and spins out of the massively successful 2014 Lego Movie.
