Leia’s slave bikini sells for $96 000
For the $96,000 price tag, the anonymous victor did get a few extra tidbits in addition to said bikini including the collar, a few chain links and a signed letter of authenticity from costume designer Richard Miller. The bikini is made with a “flexible, gold painted ref dense-urethane rubber”.
Bidding for the costume opened at ,000 at the online auction, run by United States firm Profiles In History.
Alongside the returning trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, the film’s cast is led by Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis.
Carrie Fisher wore the metal outfit in Star Wars’ Episode VI-Return of the Jedi. The actress once wore it on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine to promote the movie and her Madame Tussauds wax figure features the iconic outfit.
The bikini also became a central plot point in an episode of Friends, with Ross (David Schwimmer) persuading Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) to dress up as Princess Leia.
Carrie Fisher reportedly complained for her lack of interesting costume choices during the filming and so George Lucas requested for a costume that was very different from what Princess Leia would have normally worn.
However, if the price of the bikini was more than shocking to you all, it’s actually not the most expensive one that was auctioned! A miniature model of Princess Leia’s “Blockade Runner” sold for a whopping $450,000.
As for Princess Leia herself, Fisher reprises her role when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18!
