Leicester City must prove they can handle the pressure: Louis van Gaal
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal (2nd L) introduces three new signings: Morgan Schneiderlin (L-R), Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Matteo Darmian, at a press conference in Bellevue, Washington July 15, 2015.
But Van Gaal is confident if that was the case, he would have been informed.
“But if you want someone who understands the philosophy, whose respectful of the philosophy, who identifies with the fans, knows the place inside out, who’s going to be a bigger risk, then Ryan Giggs is that guy”.
He said he “had a relationship” with chief executive Ed Woodward and owners the Glazers and “they would tell me”.
On the mood at the club, the Dutchman added: “We are doing great in that perspective I think”.
Injuries have plagued United’s season and Schweinsteiger being sidelined for quite some time is definitely worrying because the German midfielder had a awful season previous year due to injuries. Van Gaal has therefore urged the United legend to change his tune and stop criticising the team every time he watches them play.
Van Gaal says he has not spoken to his assistant Ryan Giggs over his former team-mate’s regular criticism and the manager believes Scholes should try being more positive.
He said:”When you play a lot of matches, which is what will happen in February and also in March, yes it makes it more hard”.
He said: “We don’t have to look at our competitors”.
“When you see our results in 2016, when we have that whole season, we are the champions”.
Meanwhile, United will face the worst defence in the Premier League on Saturday, which should have their strike-force of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial licking their lips in anticipation.
Van Gaal maintained that all the pessimism surrounding United could be reversed if his team went on a run over the next few weeks and bridged the six-point gap that separates them from fourth.
Long-term absentees Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ashley Young remain sidelined with respective broken leg, shoulder, foot, knee and groin injuries.
