Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy in race row
Vardy shall be investigated by the membership after the Sun on Sunday revealed footage which seems to point out the England global abusing a person in a on line casino and calling him “Jap” on three events.
Leicester, who are owned by the Thai Srivaddhanaprabha family, said that they would launch an investigation into the incident. “There will be no further comment until this process has concluded”.
The article quotes a witness in the casino as having said: “He behaved like an absolute animal, it was appalling”.
The forward, who made his worldwide debut for England only this year, is caught on camera by the Sun on Sunday, apparently repeatedly referring to a Japanese customer at a casino as “Jap”. “Yeah you… Jap. Walk on”. De Laet is then said to have held Vardy in a headlock to prevent him going.
Anti-racism organisation Kick It Out had earlier called on the club to act in relation to the alleged Vardy incident, with director Roisin Wood telling the Sun on Sunday: “It is disappointing that the opening weekend of the season, which should be a time of celebration, has been overshadowed by these allegations”.
The players later had their contracts terminated by the club following outrage surrounding the clip.
Vardy, who scored on Saturday in Leicester’s 4-2 win over Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League season, reportedly thought a man was looking at his cards while he was playing poker.
The incident comes just months after three Leicester City players – including the son of former manager Nigel Pearson – were sacked by the club after they filmed themselves taking part in an orgy with a group of Thai girls, where they also racially abused the women (via Telegraph).
The witness continued: “A guy politely pointed out to Vardy that you are allowed to watch a poker table as long as you don’t comment on the hand in play”.
No accusations have been made against Vardy’s fiancée or the other players.
