Leicester hand England striker ‘substantial fine’ after ‘racist slur’
The Sun on Sunday published footage of Vardy appearing to shout the word “Jap” repeatedly at the guest, whose actions had angered the 28-year-old player.
England global Vardy has subsequently apologized for what he called “a regrettable error in judgement”.
The Club has issued Vardy with a “substantial” fine, which will be donated to local charities.
Two months ago, Leicester sacked three players after they took part in a racist sex tape filmed on the club’s end-of-season tour of Thailand.
“The situation is everything is OK, Jamie apologised to everyone, it was a mistake”, said Ranieri at his press conference on Thursday.
But Ranieri claims the Vardy matter is now closed – and looks set to start him at West Ham on Saturday.
Before Leicester’s verdict was announced, Ranieri had insisted there was “no problem” with the 28-year-old.
“The relationship is okay”.
“It’s important in football the club knows everything and it’s okay, they apologise and we go forward”.
“Jamie has apologized and for me it is okay”.
“I think so. If the Tinker Man changes it, maybe no, but if I change it something could happen”, Ranieri said.
After investigating, Leicester opted against sacking Vardy, 28, after taking into account his “prompt apology”.
He was still playing non-league football with Fleetwood as recently as 2012 but made his name following a £1million move to Leicester.
He scored 16 goals as the Foxes won promotion to the top flight, netting five times during the last campaign as the team fashioned an unlikely escape from relegation.
