Leicester lose Vardy for two Spurs tests
The Foxes needed at least a win to keep pace with Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday, but failed to put away a host of chances despite threatening on several occasions.
Here is the video of the penalty miss by Mahrez.
Leicester’s form has dipped slightly too, failing to score in a run of three games that has yielded two points.
Nevertheless, Ranieri was not downbeat and he and his players are planning to celebrate. “If it was a three-game ban then 100 per cent we would appeal”. “Yes, of course I’ll buy champagne, but maybe the chairman pays for it. I pay for the pizza!”
Asked if the Foxes’ bubble had burst, Vardy replied: “I am sure they said that after we played Liverpool but we managed to get a point against Man City”.
“I said in a press conference before that when it is the right moment I will rest them”.
The former Southampton boss says he is “not angry” and “always had a good relationship with the club’s owners”.
“The league is insane, the target now is to match the fi rst 19 games. We are safe so we try”. They created openings but were just unable to take one. The timing of this surgery might give an indication about how Claudio Ranieri will approach them.
Early in the second half Francis was sent off for the visitors, and Mahrez stepped up for the resulting penalty.
“For me it wasn’t a penalty. It’s fantastic”, said the Italian.
“For me, Simon has a hard job there”.
Ranieri replaced Ulloa at the interval, sending on Nathan Dyer in an attempt to get the sputtering Leicester attack going.
Leicester’s pressure seemed to have paid off when Vardy surged clear and was fouled by Francis on the edge of the penalty area, earning a spot-kick and a red card for the Bournemouth defender. That was my opinion live and it’s still my opinion having seen the replays.
