Leicester Star Set To Join Arsenal
Leicester City are hoping to encourage an auction for Riyad Mahrez if he refuses to sign a new contract, despite the fact the winger is interested in joining Arsenal.
Eurosport go on to claim that Mahrez met Gunners boss Arsene Wenger yesterday in Lens, and it is believed a fee in the region of £42 million has been agreed.
English Premier League champions Leicester City secured a penalty shoot-out victory over Celtic after a 1-1 draw in an International Champions Cup friendly in Glasgow on Saturday.
Alongside striker Jamie Vardy (who has already rejected a move to Arsenal), Mahrez was one of the leading lights in Leicester’s stunning rise to the top of the Premier League.
“We have some fantastic players and some of the bigger teams in Europe are going to want them. We just have to defend it”.
“I changed him at last because I said “okay, his job is done, it’s better to avoid injury”. We have a very good dressing room, the players who have come in are good, there is a very good harmony and for us that was the first important thing”, he added.
But Wes Morgan is determined to keep the squad intact…
Ranieri also played down suggestions that Mahrez’s substitution at Celtic was something other than the fact that he was exhausted.
‘Did you see how Riyad is happy? “We’re on the right way for our fitness, our preparation”.
Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Mahrez.
