Leicester striker Vardy confident making Newcastle clash for record bid
The problem could be that Louis van Gaal would choose to use the England global out wide – something that has happened for his country – despite the fact that his best games have come as a central striker.
The 28-year-old has scored 12 goals in his first 12 games of the season, including 11 in his last nine consecutive games, and could equal Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record of scoring in ten consecutive games at St James’s Park if he recovers.
Vardy joined Leicester in 2012 for £1m from Fleetwood Town after helping the Cod Army earn promotion to League Two from the Conference.
However, a £15m bid has been mooted for Vardy, whose rags to riches story has taken the Premier League by surprise.
Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and even Real Madrid have since been linked with his services, but the Daily Star say United now want him.
Van Gaal’s side have struggled for goals this season, scoring just 17 in the league – the lowest total of the top seven clubs – and recently went through a 404 minute spell without finding the net.
In the meantime Vardy will be looking to shake off the hip injury picked up against Watford before the global break to ensure he is fit for the game against Newcastle this weekend after he was ruled out of England’s 2-0 friendly defeat in Spain on Friday and Tuesday’s clash with France at Wembley.
