Leicester suffer heavy defeat to French champions PSG
Edinson Cavani gave PSG the lead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute and Nanitamo Jonathan Ikone doubled the advantage late in the half.
Paris Saint-Germain finished their International Champions Cup campaign strongly with a 4-0 rout of Leicester City in Carson, California, on Sunday.
Leicester came close to an equaliser soon after, Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick bringing a good save out of Alphonse Areola, before Amartey headed the resulting corner narrowly wide after the ball was punched towards him by PSG’s goalkeeper.
Claudio Ranieri admitted after the match that lessons had to be learnt.
It was over as a contest just after the hour when Maxwell sent in a cross from the left, which Lucas Moura was able to nod in after peeling away at the far post.
Edouard rounded the scoring just moments before full time.
Krychowiak was PSG’s second recruit of the summer after French global midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa from Nice.
With the French giants still missing depth in one or two positions in attack and despite interest in Real Madrid’s Jese Rodriguez, Emery might already have the solutions to those problematic areas under his nose.
Ranieri’s men shocked the world of football last season when they won the league title, but they have since lost N’Golo Kante to Chelsea.
Despite the defeat, Ranieri said it was a “good experience” as his side continue their preparations for the new Premier League season and their debut in the Champions League.
And while he might be new to the club, Meunier said he expects to play a big role under coach Unai Emery, adding he possesses the necessary qualities to slot right into his game plan.
“The focus is to be safe and then, if it’s possible, to get experience”.
“PSG are a good team that is building to win the Champions League”, he said.
“It’s unbelievable. With a lot of respect, we will try to do our best”.
