Lena Dunham says Girls will probably end after season 6
Like how she squares her traditional allegiance to Wall Street with her recent stab at populist rhetoric.
“I guess I have pulled back, I don’t look at Twitter anymore …” I wondered what inspired that and whether you ever had that moment of indecision. “We had a frustration with the feminist Internet as it stands … a lack of sort-of snark-free, intelligent spaces for women who didn’t want to participate in feminist infighting”. This is not a critique of Dunham.
Clinton then repeated the story of her own ideological evolution, recounting her liberal awakening in college. Nor does it help humanize Clinton very much.
First, we have the drawing of Clinton anchoring the interview. In print, Clinton can come across as more relatable and engaging. Yet, the interview, she tells Mashable, was about more than cheerleading.
Indeed, such an admission isn’t one that Clinton gets to make often.
By doing that, she is able to preserve over six years of her online activity, including more than 9,800 tweets and over 2.8 million followers.
The Girls star confirmed that she continues to post tweets “through someone else”, but no longer has access to her account.
In a similar tone to Lena Dunham’s interview, the Refinery29 interview covered an array of social issues affecting millennial women, from equal pay to sexual assault on college campuses. Her father was a Republican and her mother a “real social-justice Democrat”.
Dunham does ask a few policy questions. Whether it’s on the set of her hit HBO series or at a race for charity, the Oberlin College graduate has never shied away from an opportunity to show how comfortable she is with her body.
Sitting down with the actress to discuss personal convictions as well as politics, Clinton was offered the chance to display to Dunham’s readers her self-proclaimed passion for young people and women’s rights.
Here, Clinton’s answer is less than satisfying. We drove all the way up to Alaska (and) took odd jobs. Having said that, it’s worth noting that Clinton glosses over the leading role that her husband’s administration played in creating the current situation (and by most accounts, she supported those tough-on-crime policies both as First Lady and as a senator). Her goddess-granddaughter Lena seems to be mentally incapable of it. Swing state polls suggest voters simply don’t trust her. Does this softball interview help on this point? No.
“Last year, when Lena traveled the country on her book tour, she met an unbelievable range of passionate young women and the men who love them (define woman and/or love as you wish)”, reads the introduction to Lenny Letter published Tuesday.
