Leno: Accusers of Bill Cosby face unfair double standard
Leno spoke to The Associated Press after a panel at the Television Critics Association summer meeting at which he discussed his new CNBC show, “Jay Leno’s Garage”, premiering October. 7.
“I’m kind of loyal to “The Tonight Show” and to Jimmy [Fallon]”, the TV legend explained, but did share thoughts on the platform’s overall landscape. Despite Leno’s desire to bury the hatchet, we don’t think Letterman is going to make a guest appearance any time soon.
As for how it “comes across”, Leno said some of Kimmel’s bits are mean spirited.
But he didn’t stop there: “He does this thing where he takes Halloween candy from kids and the kids cry”.
Jay Leno is just two months away from combining two of his biggest passions: television and automobiles. What am I missing here?
The former “Tonight Show” host thinks the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ presenter is “talented and funny” but believes his show doesn’t do as well as his rivals” in the ratings because he is lacking in kindness. “I think that’s why he’s not higher in the ratings”.
The 65-year-old gearhead added that while he doesn’t miss hosting “The Tonight Show“, he’s glad he handed it off to current host Jimmy Fallon in good shape.
“Yeah, I’d like to do them on Jimmy. Because I’m a stand-up, I don’t just sit on the couch”, Leno dished. They come fully equipped with memories. It is amusing I guess, but its mean-based. “I think [Trump] and Jeb Bush are the frontrunners”, he said. While I personally love Kimmel segmentsespecially Liewitness News and Mean Tweetsnot everyone can get behind the fact that those sketches are a little more vicious than the other late night hosts’ segments.
While Leno doesn’t miss having to write material for a 14-minute monologue every night, the comedian, who has been traveling the country doing stand-up in his retirement, has a few Donald Trump jokes he’d like to get off his chest.
