Leon, Holt power Red Sox past D’backs 6-3
Ramirez owns a.337 wOBA and has hit 14 home runs, while stealing seven bases this year.
“I just want to be aggressive out there”, Bradley said.
Despite recording nine hits in the series finale, the Red Sox could only muster runs on an RBI single and an RBI double from Hanley Ramirez, and they left nine runners on base.
Boston Red Sox’s Hanley Ramirez tosses his bat after hitting a three-run home run during the first inning of a baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Boston, Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.
After dropping two of three games to the middling New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox can ill afford a sub-par weekend against the bottom-dwelling Arizona Diamondbacks. It has been a while since Buchholz has made a start for the Sox, July 2nd where he went four and one thirds innings giving up 6 runs (only 3 earned runs), 2 home runs and a strike out picking up the lose against the Angels.
In the top of the eighth, Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez was attempting to beat out a groundball when Ramirez leaned backward on top of the first base bag in an effort to field a low throw.
“The range of motion has improved, as I said over the last 24 hours, the strength, the symptoms have decreased”, Farrell said.
“He’s made some slight adjustments to his arm slot that has allowed for better depth to his cutter, some consistent sink to his two-seamer. but to not think about pitch count – just go as hard as you can for as long as you can and let the game unfold and we’ll adjust accordingly”. “We got in good situations; the score allowed us to do that a lot”.
It was all the run support needed for David Price (10-8), who struck out eight in eight innings to pick up the win. “And we all know what he’s capable of”, Ortiz said of Ramirez. Another flare would see Paul Goldschmidt to first, and when a David Price changeup stayed right on over the plate to Rickie Weeks Jr., and the result was a two-run shot into the Monster seats to leave the Sox in an early hole. Bourn had an RBI single in the fifth.
Ortiz departed Wednesday’s tilt after fouling a ball off his shin and Ramirez was an early exit on Thursday night following a collision in the field. All the runs in the inning were unearned, thanks to the two Arizona errors.
Diamondbacks: Hale said the club hopes to learn more about RHP Rubby De La Rosa’s injury after he was sent for an MRI on Friday.
Red Sox: Pedroia left the game after the second inning with flu-like symptoms. He allowed three runs on ten hits in his eight-inning start, walking just one batter while striking out eight Diamondbacks.
Red Sox manager John Farrell had said before the game that Buchholz wouldn’t throw more than about 70 pitches, and he ultimately threw 71. The first was mashed to center by Jean Segura, where Bradley basically fell over himself trying to make the catch, allowing what was generously scored as a triple.
No Red Sox batters have faced Bradley.
Diamondbacks: RHP Archie Bradley (4-7, 4.80 ERA) has posted a 2.03 ERA over his last six road starts, while surrendering just one home run and limiting opponents to a.222 batting average over that span.
