Leonard Fournette Had Yet Another Monster Game Against Syracuse

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cardale Jones threw two touchdown passes early on and Adolphus Washington returned an interception 20 yards for a score to lead No. 1 Ohio State to a 38-12 win over Western Michigan on Saturday.

It wasn’t supposed to be pretty, but Shafer’s squad stuck with LSU, trailing only 7-3 at halftime.

Both teams entered this week undefeated, but that was where the similarities ended.

The Aggies (4-0) had a chance to win the game on the final play of regulation, but Taylor Bertolet’s 38-yard field goal attempt was just wide right.

Two more penalties on its next drive led to another LSU punt. I don’t know if the best defense in the nation could hold down Leonard Fournette under 70 or 80 yards.

Fournette set up his first touchdown after an unconventional emergency pitchout from quarterback Brandon Harris, who was in the process of being sacked.

Fournette rushed for a career-high 244 yards and a touchdown, as the #8 Tigers held off a feisty Orange team hungry for an upset. Freshman running back Jordan Fredericks scored the game-winning touchdown on a 4-yard run.

The Orange are in trouble at the quarterback position.

Prior to that play, Mahoney had been on a hot streak for Syracuse. In fact, I count myself amongst the number that had LSU covering the full 24 point spread, and at times it looked as if they would do just that. The Tigers jumped into SEC play and beat then-No.

On the next possession after Fournette’s long touchdown, he had an 87-yard touchdown run called back because of an illegal formation penalty.

Syracuse’s Mahoney threw to Ben Lewis for a 2-yard TD. If they’re able to move the ball, keep Leonard Fournette off the field … and exploit LSU not having its leading tackler in the first half, that’s the way to go.

Syracuse heads into a buy week following the game against LSU.

LSU led 34-17 with 5:11 to play.
