Leonardo DiCaprio acknowledges First Nations people in Golden Globes speech

In the supporting actor category, Globe victor Sylvester Stallone is expected to ride a wave of popular support for “Creed”, in which he reprised his iconic role of boxer Rocky Balboa, straight to an Oscars nod. According to Alyson Lockwood – one of the Canadian casting directors for the Revenant – director Alejandro G. Inarritu was looking for raw, authentic people to fill indigenous roles and, sometimes, that meant they had no acting experience. When Ridley Scott, the director of The Martian, got up onstage to receive the award, he wondered out loud: “comedy?” before shrugging it off with a skeptical wave of the hand. Winner Brie Larson (Room, 2015) stands a good chance of picking up a Best Actress Oscar, following in the footsteps of Julianne Moore (Still Alice, 2014), Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, 2013), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady, 2011) and several others.
Leonardo’s Titanic co-star Kate Winslet also had a delightful evening after picking up the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs.
Bernal’s win, however, was the biggest upset of the night.

In the television category, “Mr. Robot” won for best TV drama series.
A big tell for how the Best Picture category will shake out comes from yet another awards show: the SAGs, or Screen Actors Guild Awards.
And as for “American Horror Story: Hotel”, don’t forget the finale airs this week.
DiCaprio, 41, who has yet to win an Oscar, received a standing ovation and said he shared his award with indigenous people around the world. Henson also dedicated hers to all her “haters”.
