Gervais’ snark aside, the Golden Globes have worked for years to shed an image of eccentric selections made by a group of little-known worldwide journalists.

The PBS series “Wolf Hall” also caused an upset when it took home the Golden Globe for Best Limited-Series, beating the more popular and critically-acclaimed “Fargo“. It was his third Golden Globe victory and seems to put DiCaprio on the path to his first Oscar.
That was no different on Sunday when “The Revenant” shocked many by taking home the biggest prize, for best dramatic film. It was Hamm’s sixth nomination and second win.
The moral of the story here is NOT to use this year’s Golden Globes winners as a sure bet when filling out your Oscar ballot – except maybe for Brie Larson… The bigger stars that typically draw the biggest cheers will arrive a little later, including Jennifer Lawrence, Alicia Vikander, Lady Gaga, and Rooney Mara, as reported by CNN. Most presenters couldn’t mask their sarcasm about The Martian being nominated for (and winning) the Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical award. It won the best motion picture in comedy or musical.
DiCaprio won a Globe himself for his harrowing performance in the gritty film Revenant.
The acclaimed drama, ‘The Revenant, ‘ was the top victor of the night, as the film was honored with the Best Motion Picture – Drama award.
“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film. And in an unguarded moment at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, Winslet and DiCaprio shared a hug and some quiet words in the audience while the show took a commercial break.
Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement honoree Denzel Washington also fumbled his way through his speech, which generally serves as a poignant respite in an otherwise irreverent evening.
