Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant is “a performance I’ll remember forever”
The duo wrapped up warm for the chilly red carpet in Leicester Square, alongside director Alejandro Inarritu, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter, who all discussed the film’s incredible 12 Oscar nominations.
The team of “The Revenant“, who now stand a chance to win in categories like Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design and Best Sound Mixing, might also walk away with top honours including Best Picture and Best Director.
The other five movies nominated for best picture include “Room”, based on the book by Canadian author Emma Donahoe, “Spotlight”, “Bridge of Spies“, “The Big Short” and “Brooklyn”.
The film is followed by Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron-starrer “Mad Max: Fury Road”, which is nominated in 10 categories, and Matt Damon’s “The Martian“, which received seven nods. “Champagne and Mezcal will run tonight!”
The Oscar nominees for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and more have been revealed ahead of the award show, which airs February 28 on ABC.
“Look at the range of movies we’re discussing”, film critic Leonard Maltin said.
Left on the outside were Todd Haynes’ acclaimed lesbian romance Carol and the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton.
DiCaprio has never won an Oscar before despite four nominations, but he will be hoping this is finally his year.
The best actress field is led by favourite Brie Larson for Room, along with Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), Cate Blanchett (Carol), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) and Charlotte Rampling (45 Years).
Sylvester Stallone, enjoying a new wave of popularity, scored a supporting actor nod for reprising his career-defining role as boxer Rocky Balboa in “Creed”.
