Meanwhile, the competition is a lot more intense in the Best Picture nominations as eight movies, including “Mad Max: Fury Road”, are going head-to-head for the gold.
The 41-year-old was nominated for a best actor Academy Award on Thursday for his lead role in The Revenant. Among the biggest snubs for best picture are Will Smith of “Concussion”, Michael B. Jordan of “Creed” and Idris Elba, who was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his supporting role in “Beasts of No Nation”.
DiCaprio also gave a shoutout to Tom Hardy and Kate Winslet, for their Oscar nominations. (“Bridge of Spies”), Paramount Pictures (“The Big Short”), Universal (“Straight Outta Compton”) and Warner Bros.
First of all, the official list of nominees has already been posted on the Oscars website and DiCaprio is, of course, on the list for Best Actor.
In the adapted screenplay category I think The Martian’s undeniably witty writing will win it the award over the other four nominees, whereas the original category will have a closer victor.

He’s now one of just a handful of performers who have been nominated twice for the same role, and the distance between his movies is far and away the longest.
Although, Indian film “Court” couldn’t make it to the Best Foreign Language Film category, the movies which are contending in the top five include “Son of Saul”, “Mustang”, “A War”, “Embrace of the Serpent” and “Theeb”.
Another record breaker this year is Steven Spielberg, who produced and directed “Bridge of Spies”. Chris Rock will host.
A diverse lineup of films has made this year’s awards season tough to predict. Going into the nominations, the favorite was Spotlight, about the Boston Globe’s coverage of widespread sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests.
The Oscars are scheduled for February 28 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
The nominations were announced by directors Ang Lee and Guillermo del Toro, actor John Krasinski, and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of AMPAS.
