Leonardo Dicaprio Reacts To Receiving His 5th Oscar Nomination
“The Revenant”, about a fur trapper mauled by a bear and left for dead by his companions, brought nominations for DiCaprio, who has never won an Oscar, and supporting actor for Tom Hardy.
To be hosted by Chris Rock, the 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre here.
Among the nominations for best actor was Eddie Redmayne, for his portrayal of a transgender woman in the film The Danish Girl.
“For Sylvester Stallone to be the only nominee for “Creed” is totally a slap in the face to some of the other people involved in that project”, Robertson told Reuters. “The Martian”, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi adventure with Matt Damon, racked up seven nominations, including best picture. The tally also includes six nods for “Bridge of Spies”, which it shared with Walt Disney Co.
He said: “Knowing that I did a movie that took this much of my life, that we devoted this much to as far as focus is concerned, we gave it everything we possibly could”.
The Oscars, chosen by the 6,000 members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, can have up to 10 best picture nominees, but voters selected just eight.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu revealed at “The Revenant” European premiere in London on Thursday night (14.01.16) that he wanted to explore a “clash of two cultures” in the movie.
Actresses Brie Larson (“Room”), Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”), Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Joy”) and Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”) will be vying for the golden statuette in the Actress in a Leading Role category. Blanchett was nominated for lesbian romance “Carol”, although the movie was overlooked for best picture.
If DiCaprio wins, it will be his first-ever Oscar in his 25-year career.
“I aggressively fought for him and I’m glad that he signed on”, he said.
