For best actress, “Carol” star Cate Blanchett and “Room” star Brie Larson, who portrayed a kidnapped mother living in captivity with her son, are seen as the favorites in a category that also includes veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”).
Pixar’s Inside Out is in the running for best animated feature film, with competitors including Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa and the Shaun the Sheep Movie, featuring the character first seen alongside Wallace and Gromit in Aardman’s A Close Shave.

In the race to win the Best Original Score, the nominees are “Bridge of Spies”, “Carol”, “The Hateful Eight”, “Sicario” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
“When you look at what’s happening – its very troubling”.
