Les Miles appears to out the door as LSU head coach
LSU finishes its season Saturday another SEC West program that has seen high hopes fall hard, Texas A&M (8-3).
Miles has won 10 or more games seven times in his 11 seasons as LSU’s coach but he has also lost three or more games four years in a row, including this season.
“I think the question’s valid, ” Miles said of questions about his job. “I would be not doing my job as the head coach at LSU”.
After its first two planned performances were canceled, the school announced rock band 3 Doors Down will play alongside The Golden Band from Tigerland during halftime of the Texas A&M game Saturday. “That’s a policy in which I have – I’m not going to comment on any job in any way shape or form”. “This will always be about our players at the team”. The Tigers are 7-3 after three straight losses. “I think it’s the SEC title game because that gets you over the national championship game hump”.
The Tigers head boss has a 110-32 record in almost 11 years at the school, while winning the prestigious SEC twice and has a national championship (2007) to boot. More information will surely be coming out in the coming days, but as of now it looks like this could be Les Miles final season at LSU. The following week, in the Battle for the Boot, LSU was never able to get any momentum going, looking disheartened and uninspired during a 31-14 loss to Arkansas. “It’s unfair to the players that are there, the players that are here, the coaches there and here”, Fisher said.
Miles is expected to have a “special meeting” with his players Monday afternoon, team sources told the Times-Picayune.
The coach said there is “probably some concern”, among members of the coaching staff, but added that they understand that “victory is maybe more important than anybody’s job”.
Right now, the only way firing Miles makes any sense is if LSU lands Fisher, a proven coach and recruiter who could try to tackle the Nick Saban Envy Disease that plagues a faction of LSU boosters. For the second straight season and only the fourth time in Miles’s tenure, the team will not win 10 games.
“It’s the way of the world and nature of the business”, Fisher said. Leonard Fournette is forced unfairly to play another year of college football, there’s only one starting senior on offense, the defense has replacements to fill the holes lost in the secondary, and the defensive front is going to be a brick wall.
So if Michigan’s still interested… well, we’re assuming the Wolverines aren’t in the market for a new coach right now.
But there’s no guarantee Fisher would leave the Seminoles for LSU. The University of Tennessee parted ways with a coach that won them a National Championship in 1998, Philip Fulmer, after the 2008 season.
