Les Miles to remain head coach at LSU
For two weeks, speculation had been running rampant that Miles would be replaced following Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
“I agree with Joe”, Miles said and later added that he would consider staff changes.
“Les Miles is our football coach and he will continue to be our football coach”, Alleva said.
The 62-year-old Miles is now 111-32 in 11 seasons at LSU, with the Tigers ending the regular season with an 8-3 record (the opening game was canceled because of bad weather), and it’s possible he’ll have a team that can contend for an SEC title next season.
“During the week, a lot of people were saying this game would be won in the trenches”, said LSU defensive tackle Christian LaCouture, who helped carry Miles off the field.
Tigers boosters apparently are trying to buy out the about $15 million remaining on Miles’ contract.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Miles’ job security, Anthony said he was still 100 percent committed to LSU.
Alex Dusza, SB Nation: After the game, Miles was carried off the field by his players with the look of a coach who was retiring.
Once the game was over, Miles was first told that he would be staying on as head coach by ailing school president F. King Alexander.
The Heisman Trophy candidate, who produced his fourth 200-yard game of the season against an SEC foe, put the game away with 19 runs in the fourth quarter, then extended his school-record streak of games with a rushing touchdown to 17 in the final minute.
Somehow, after all that, Miles will be back for a 12th year as the Tigers’ head coach. This gives Miles and the Tigers the spring to implement a new offensive system, one with greater run pass balance. “It’s like a friend, it’s like anybody, it’s more important that you play well”. Good for Les Miles and good for college football. He won the BCS National Championship during the 2007 season. Did LSU leak all the recent rumors about Miles in an attempt to undermine public support and make firing him easier, only for it to backfire spectacularly?
LSU QB Brandon Harris was 7 of 21 for 83 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.
LSU drew first blood in a game for the first time since beating Western Kentucky on October 24 when Domingue booted a 32-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 10:58 to go in the first quarter.
The Aggies squandered a chance to widen their lead when Allen was sacked and stripped by Kendell Beckwith on the LSU 13, with the Tigers’ Devon Godchaux recovering.
A&M managed 82 yards in the first quarter on 13 plays and had but 142 yards at halftime.
Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen threw Ricky Seals-Jones for a 8-yard TD.
