Les Miles will be staying on as LSU head football coach
That’s my fault. You could have easily just said, ‘Let’s return it.’ We were trying to get something going there in the red zone, and we made the call to go for the block.
Alleva said he and Miles had spoken about the future of the program and said he was looking forward to working with Miles down the road.
Speculation that the regular-season finale will also be Miles’ final game as LSU’s coach has dominated Louisiana sports talk shows, internet chat rooms and newspaper columns lately.
“Thanks for a great 11 years”, he said at the regular Friday meeting of the Gridiron Club booster group, according to multiple Gridiron Club members at the meeting.
“We’re a talented football team”. ESPN’s Joe Schad has been reporting that he and other administrators, but I had begun to hear it during the day of tailgating.
“I hear that a new coach could be introduced as early as Monday or Tuesday”. Apparently, reaching double-digit wins almost every single year is not good enough for LSU. Sure, “it’s just another game”, right?
Victory over Texas A&M (8-4, 4-4) did not come easily for the Tigers (8-3, 5-3), who trailed until Derrius Guice’s 50-yard scoring run in the third quarter. That said, in an in-game interview with Maria Taylor of the SEC Network, O’Neal solidly backed Miles, and he said the school should be showing the coach “a lot more respect”.
“I’ll never forget showing up and seeing Andrew Whitworth and what was said by Tyson Jackson when Katrina hit”, Miles said during the show that included emotional goodbyes from fans. “It was hard for everybody”. “LSU played very well on defense”.
On November 17, The Advocate reported that Miles was probably coaching for his job. “They’re going to have to bring everything they’ve got in here”.
Would moving on from the Les Miles era be a knee-jerk reaction to a bad month or a move that needs to be made for the betterment of the program long-term? Miles may have announced his departure from LSU today… then again, he might not have.
Various chants echoed throughout Death Valley, with the crowd imploring LSU to keep Miles. He is 111-32 with a national championship.
The win continues the string of at least eight wins per season for LSU.
There were a handful of pre-snap penalties and the passing game was largely ineffective.
In the first half, Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly was 11 of 19 for 188 yards with one touchdown pass to Laquon Treadwell that came after Harris was intercepted. A number of his passes sailed over intended receivers or skipped off the grass short of their mark.
LSU’s next four first-half drives resulted in two three-and-outs and a pair of missed field goals: attempts of 25 and 50 yards from junior Trent Domingue.
Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen threw Ricky Seals-Jones for a 8-yard TD.
