LeSean McCoy case may hinge on who started the nightclub brawl
Controversy has erupted as Fraternal Order of Police organizations do not believe that the case against McCoy and his friends has been moved along quickly enough.
Bills running back LeSean McCoy will meet with the district attorney in Philadelphia on Tuesday, according to a media report.
McCoy’s attorney says that meeting will take place sometime Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement, Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams said his department is continuing to review evidence tied to the alleged altercation at a Philadelphia nightclub on February 7 and that it would not rush its ongoing probe.
A source told the Buffalo News one of the off-duty cops instigated that Philadelphia night club fight. “I know there are some people who are clambering that I have it resolved one minute from now, and that wouldn’t be the prudent thing”, Williams said. “They want to get it right”.
The district attorney’s office has faced criticism over the perceived slow pace of their investigation.
The fight that started over a $350 bottle of champagne may not have a clear instigator, thus explaining why the DA’s office has dragged its feet on pressing charges. The other officer received eight stitches over his left eye and is now receiving treatment for a possible skull fracture.
McCoy is represented by high-profile criminal defense lawyer Dennis Cogan.
McCoy, 27, is a Bishop McDevitt graduate who starred at Pitt for two years before spending the first six years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
