LeSean McCoy: (Hamstring) Optimism For Week 1 Fading
“We have a kickoff guy and we miss field goals…I’m very disappointed in that, and I don’t care who knows it”.
Bills running back LeSean McCoy has been sidelined for the past two weeks with a left hamstring injury, but according to ESPN, he believes he’ll be ready for Week 1.
Bills head coach Rex Ryan seemed positive late last month that McCoy would be joining them in Week 1, but he did not discuss any information regarding the running back’s MRI.
“Yeah, I expect to keep three quarterbacks on the roster, I do, that is a true statement”, Ryan said.
“I kind of knew coming into this organization what the situation was, leading up to it”, said Simms.
So when Carpenter’s 40-yard field goal attempt clanked off the right upright in the Bills’ preseason finale against the Lions on Thursday, Ryan was visibly disgusted. In most cases you just have to continue to work and hopefully one day when your number is called you get that extended chance to show people what you can do.
“I mean if he came around and just started feeling really, really, good heaven knows, but (we) have to look at all the contingency plans: Putting him on a pitch count possibly, or, he’s not out there at all and we got to go without him and get the other guys ready – you just don’t know”.
The Bills also got running back Karlos Williams back at practice Friday. “I’m just happy that Rex brought me into the organization and allowed me to be a good teammate with everybody else and go from there”. That on the heels of a 2013 season when he scored 131 points by making 33 of 36 field goals and all 32 of his conversions.
Ryan suggested he is certainly looking for a new kicker, but as of now, Carpenter still has a job. That’s obviously something I’ve done only about half the time. I’m not going anywhere else.
“Again, we’ll be open to anything”, the coach said. “I’m always confident. But I think it does matter that you’re confident in your ability to make cuts”. “You see that around the league right now as cuts are happening”. “I wasn’t going to have a sub; that wasn’t going to be an option”. And for me, as an undrafted guy, all you can ask for is an opportunity.
