LeSean McCoy stands by Chip Kelly comments
And, via NJ.com, McCoy was asked about the comments he made after being traded by the Eagles and coach Chip Kelly, when he told ESPN The Magazine “there’s a reason he got rid of all the black players – the good ones – like that”. After six seasons with the Eagles, McCoy was traded to the Bills for Kiko Alonso. “But seeing them go through it, and me being the last person, I’ve got to be professional”.
This week, McCoy refused to take back those words.
“I’m not gonna change anything I said”, McCoy told 94WIP radio in Philadelphia on Tuesday. “Now I understand it, but when it happened I didn’t understand that”. “Everything I said, I stand by it. I don’t take it back”.
He added: “One thing about myself, I will take back nothing I say”. But McCoy probably feels he was worth the near $12 million cap hit he was scheduled to have, and considering he’s the leading rusher in franchise history and was just a year removed from finishing as the runner-up in the MVP race, who am I to argue that? I think he was a great player here. Is other players will only say how they feel.
“I think coming to a place that wanted me and appreciated me, that always counts”, McCoy said. But I don’t want too relive it. I say what I said.
“I’m sure there are people you don’t hate or have an issue with that you don’t speak to”, he said. “He can’t call me”. “I don’t have no issue with him”.
McCoy’s return and the bad blood between him and Kelly highlight a game between the Bills (6-6) and Eagles (5-7), who are battling to stay in the playoff picture. It just hurts me and I’m a part of the media.
“It’s not about you, it’s really not”.
“If I didn’t work here I’d walk off this thing right now because I’m exhausted of talking about this mess about these players”. Now faced with returning to Lincoln Financial Field for the first time as an opponent, in a game that Buffalo has to win to remain in the AFC Wild Card hunt, McCoy does not want to let his emotions get the best of him. So, we’ll see. It don’t matter if it’s a boo or if they’re congratulating me, I have a lot of respect and love for the city and the fans.
