Leslie Jones Hacker Sought by Homeland Security
United States authorities have launched an investigation into the hacking of Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones’ website after intimate photos of the actress were posted online. One theory is that the person behind Jones’ hack was a Yiannopoulos fan acting in retaliation. The FBI is not now involved with the investigation.
The site was taken down last night, and Variety reports that the Department of Homeland Security is getting involved.
The FBI also investigated the attack on Oscar victor Jennifer Lawrence, whose naked pictures were exposed in 2014, also allegedly from her Apple iCloud account.
The culprits posted nude photos of the comedian on her website, along with her passport, driver’s license and other sensitive info.
The social media company permanently suspended numerous accounts and announced a new “quality filter” earlier in August, which is created to allow users to deal with trolls and abusive posts, according to a BBC report. She returned to tweet about the Rio Olympics in August.
“You can hate the movie but the (comments) I got today.wrong”, Jones tweeted in July before her brief absence from social media. “I know we had our differences after my review of Ghostbusters but I wish her all the best at what must be a deeply upsetting time”.
Celebrities are showing their support for Leslie Jones in the wake of her invasive website hack.
“The investigation is now ongoing”, the agency told TIME in a statement.
