Leslie Jones jokes about her Twitter woes at Emmy Awards
She continued to show her strength on Sunday, as she took the stage at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater at the annual TV prizegiving to make light of the cyber attack.
“I really appreciate all of the hard work you do, but let’s be real: Y’all protecting something that nobody is trying to steal”, Jones joked to the accountants.
“Don’t nobody want to know about boring Emmys secrets, OK?” Jones got real with them on stage, saying, “I’ve got something for you to protect: my Twitter account!” Jones said to an amused crowd. “Put that in the vault, please!” For a while it seemed like nearly every week Jones was being attacked somehow on Twitter, culminating in the leak of her nude photos. When she accompanied the accountants responsible for keeping the Emmy results a secret, she begged them to protect something that’s actually important – her Twitter password!
Leslie, 48, took a break from social media as she recovered from the online hack, but made a triumphant return to Twitter earlier this month (Sep16). Jones screams that she wanted to, “just feel attractive!”
And while we’re happy that the comedian is taking it all in stride, the bigger picture isn’t lost on us. Many celebrities, particularly women, have been hacked and had their private nude photos spread all over the Internet but the way in which Jones has been targeted is absolutely atrocious.
And that’s no laughing matter.
