Leslie Jones live-tweeting from the Olympics in Rio
“Yeah, b–s, I’m in Rio”, she said in one post while pointing out her hotel’s pool area.
Jones said her surprise Olympic success will further her dream of putting the sport “on the map”. Since day 1 of the Olympics, the Ghostbusters star has tweeted almost non-stop, providing her own fiercely enthusiastic commentary of the games.
“We made it OFFICIAL!”
“Twitter I understand you got free speech”.
“OK this insane y’all it’s taking forever to get to event cause everything is spread out”.
“You can see on the profiles that some of these people are insane sick”. ‘ .’ The fun on the NBC team doesn’t stop with Leslie – it’s already begun for none other than former “first daughter” Jenna Bush Hager.
I foresee a huge upswing to the coverage with Jones’ added humor and commentary and feel it could be a great trend for the Olympics of the future. “Y’all I got more love than hate but they louder. So hurt right now”.
#SexyAthletes was trending on Twitter Friday morning.
If we were down there competing, one thing’s for sure: We’d want a pre-game pep talk from Ms. Leslie Jones. Any personal attacks against her are attacks against us all.
After a brief period of contemplation, Jones chose to take the network up on its offer, thus continuing one of the most unexpected underdog stories of the Olympics. Sadly (and despite promises from Twitter to improve “tools and enforcement systems”), verbal abuse on the internet seems to be part of the celebrity experience these days, something Amy Schumer knows well.
