LeT top commander Abu Dujana gunned down by security forces
He was killed along with his associate Arif Lalihaari, in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday. A civilian was killed when security forces fired at a mob of protesters who threw stones during the encounter.
However, the security forces say that there are around over 100 terrorists active in South Kashmir.
“Dujana is from Pakistan and was carrying a reward, for he was one of the dreaded militants active in the region”, a police official posted in Pulwama said. Based on intelligence the security forces carried out a search operation at the Hakripora village in Pulwama.
From LeT commander Abu Dujana to Hizbul Mujahideen’s Burhan Wani, Indian security forces have had their success in eliminating top militants of terrorists organisations in recent months.
Jehangir Ahmad Dar was hit by a bullet on his back while Mudasir Ahmad was hit by pellets on his the chest, the official said, adding both have been admitted to different hospitals.
Dujana, 27, born in Pakistan, was on the police’s most wanted list and had a 1.5-million-rupee (23,000-dollar) bounty on his head. Later the security forces used explosives, mortars and possibly improvised explosive devices to blow the private house up, a report said.
It started around early hours of the morning, around 8 (AM) or so and within a couple of hours, the two terrorists were killed, he said.
The puppet authorities suspended all Internet services across the Kashmir Valley immediately after the killing. There were reports of students clashing with security forces across Kashmir. Addressing the media with Lieutenant-General JS Sandhu, General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 15th Corps, Inspector-General of Police Munir Khan said: “Dujana’s killing is good riddance to a nuisance”. Eyewitnesses said that locals staged massive protest outside District Hospital Pulwama while government forces according to witnesses resorted to firing resulting in the injuries of many people including a hospital Nurse who has been identified as Gulzara Bano.
Meanwhile the police have alleged that the slain were involved in a number of militancy-related activities including bank robberies.
“He had married a local Kashmiri girl, today also he had gone to meet a girl, (but) can’t be sure if it was the same girl”, Vaid told Hindustan Times.
Abu was reportedly killed and fierce encounter was going on.
