Lethal Weapon TV Series in the Works
Warner Bros Television is teaming up with Fox and “Forever” creator Matthew Miller on the latest in a seemingly never-ending list of movie franchises being turned into TV shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In 2011 Warner Bros. and Joel Silver pushed for a complete reboot, scrapping the idea for a continuation film that had been under consideration.
The broadcast networks have been scrambling to grab movie titles for TV adaptations at a time when the talent pool for series development is stretched thin by the multitude of shows in production across cable and digital outlets. There, he gets partnered with LAPD Detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life. Past year Chris Hemsworth’s name was thrown around for a possible role, though whether that would be as a recasting of Martin Riggs, originally played by Mel Gibson, or as Riggs’ son wasn’t clear. The pilot will be written by Matt Miller (Chuck, Forever) who will also executive produce. Pictures, which is the studio that produced the original movies.
The original pic, directed by Richard Donner, spawned three sequels, released in 1989, 1992 and 1998. The franchise has earned almost a billion dollars at the box office.
Rush Hour was rebooted by the same company past year and other hit films to be making the transition to the small screen include Taken, In The Line Of Fire and RED.
FOX is rebooting Lethal Weapon as a TV series.
