Levon Aronian, 32, a player from Yerevan, Armenia, was introduced as the victor of the Sinquefield Cup and its $75,000 prize.
In the second half, Anand’s most hard game was supposedly against in-form Aronian but it turned out to be an easy game in the end. The tournament was also dissappointing for Fabio Caruana and Wesley So who finished ninth and tenth respectively. Despite being the favourite at the tournament, he did not win, and has yet to win a grand tour tournament. After the Soviet Union’s collapse, chess became a substitute for school and an endeavor on which his unemployed parents, both of whom were scientists, could focus. The Armenian with 5.5 points, enjoys a full point lead over nearest rivals Anish Giri of Holland, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, Alexander Grischuk of Russian Federation and Carlsen who all have 4.5 points apiece.
