Lexus GS Comes to Pebble Beach with New 200t RWD Version
A new front bumper and rocker panel design sharpen the coupe-inspired profile, with the makeover extending to revised taillights, revised rear trim and new 18- and 19-inch machine-finish wheel designs. The GS 200t comes with the 2-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine that puts out 241 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
New colors include Matador Red Mica, Nightfall Mica and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 among other choices.
Starting with the big news, the 2016 Lexus lineup will be joined by a new model, the GS 200t. Another member added to the GS family is the GS 350, which is making use of a 3.5 liter V6 engine, producing a total of 311 HP (232 kW) and 379 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque.
Comfort and convenience features added comprise Remote Touch Interface for the multimedia infotainment system, Climate Concierge – which automatically adjusts fan speeds and temperature settings for the four zones, the seats and the steering wheel – and larger dual screens for the rear-seat entertainment system.
For its Pebble Beach unveiling, Lexus chose to debut the vehicle with a brand new power train.
The unit is connected exclusively to the 8-speed automatic transmission and the average fuel consumption stands at 7.1 liters / 100 km (39.6 mpg UK / 33 mpg US) on the highway. The hybrid GS 450h model doesn’t get any change to its performance or mpg ratings for the 2016 model year, but still gets the upgraded looks.
The mid-range GS 350 boasts AWD and an F Sport package is available on all three GS models with improved chassis tuning for the track and staggered tire sizes on rear-wheel drive models. Like the LX 570 unveiled at the same event, the GS gets the same GPS-updating analog clock surrounded by aluminum in the dash.
Lexus’s Safety System+ is available on the new GS, giving drivers the reassurance of a pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts, intelligent high beams and dynamic cruise control.
The new GS line goes on sale in October, and pricing has not been announced.
