Lexus heads “Back to the Future”
A highly constrained, not quite original hoverboard is still a hoverboard, though and Lexus has been successful in building one.
According to Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, TOYOTA Motor Corporation, “The Lexus Hoverboard represents a significant technological and creative breakthrough, opening the door to a future with unlimited possibilities”.
Back in June this year, fans were cautiously optimistic about Lexus introducing a new device called Slide, which they purported to be a working hoverboard. “We deeply appreciate the encouragement of our customers who have always supported our design-led initiatives over the years”. Following 18 months of extensive testing with the help of global pro-skateboard star Ross McGouran, the Lexus Hoverboard is ready to take flight. A video of the Hoverboard being tested is embedded below and the dream of Hoverboard riding for the ordinary man has moved a little bit closer. Lexus has captured the final ride footage and released it as a film led by award winning director Henry-Alex Rubin. The steam that comes out is liquid nitrogen that cools the superconductors to -321 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the temperature needed to make it superconducting. Rather than hover over any surface, it’s essentially an electro magnet running on a magnetic rail, similar to a Japanese bullet train.
And there’s a catch: the hoverboard requires a magnetic track to operate.
