LG G5 tipped to get a helping hand from Sony
A new report claims that LG is testing its upcoming flagship smartphone for next year, the LG G5, with QUALCOMM’s Snapdragon 820 processor and a custom Sony camera sensor.
The next-generation Snapdragon 820 processor promises to deliver a much more powerful performance than its infamous predecessor, the Snapdragon 810, which was in the news for alleged overheating issues. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset and has a stunning 16-megapixel back shutter and 8-megapixel selfie-taker. The graph at hand shows the Snapdragon 810 (green) next to two Snapdragon 820 variants (which according to the source are powering two Galaxy S7 protoypes), namely “820-A” (orange) and “820-B” (red) and their respective AnTuTu scores. The new model is likely to be launched next spring.
Moving on to the other main rumor, the camera.
By comparison, the LG G4 has a 5.5-inch screen display with 2K resolution. Nearly all reviews of the G4 have praised its 16MP camera for excellent performance in both daylight as well as low-light situations. “The LG G4 now uses a 1/2.6” type Sony sensor, so the G5 sensor would be significantly larger. LG has officially confirmed that it plans to release another flagship smartphone in the second half of 2015.
The LG G5 is also expected to feature an upgrade camera of 20-megapixel with a customized Sony sensor that is ½-inch wide.
“With the LG G5, you’ll be getting a 20MP, 1/2” Sony camera sensor, so the quality of photographs taken by the device should be expected to increase massively. The G5 is expected to come early next year, perhaps as the first quarter ends, so we should also expect leaks and speculations about the device to start increasing. At such an early stage, it is possible that LG could decide to change key specs and go with an alternative solution. So, for now, we would suggest taking this report with a grain of salt.
