LG officially announces V10 ahead of New York event
LG Electronics Inc. has unveiled a new smartphone with an additional screen to display information and a camera that can capture a wider scene when taking a selfie.
The 5.7-inch LG V10 features a QHD IPS Quantum display and a small rectangular display above the larger screen. The Second Screen works independently from the main display, and can be set up as an “always on” display without impacting battery life. It seems as though it’s very similar to the edge display on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note Edge devices.
With smartphones having long reached maturity in the most important areas, we’ve been seeing OEMs get more and more creative trying to differentiate their handsets, with features like curved screens (both of the sloped and banana-shaped types) and pressure-sensitive displays.
With the light sensor at the top, the second display will be deactivated when the device is in a pocket or a bag, or face down.
“The LG V10 was designed from the ground up primarily as a multimedia smartphone for the sharing ecosystem”, Juno Cho, CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications, said in statement.
LG officially announced the high-end V10 smartphone with secondary display and a duo of front-facing cameras.
This phone is also equipped with 16MP rear camera with F1.8 Aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation. The user can later pick/edit the best shot. Other notable features here include and wind noise filter and audio monitor to adjust the sensitivity of all three mics during recording. We’ve actually seen this idea before-Samsung did it with the Continuum back in 2010-but it appears LG feels the complementary display trend isn’t quite dead.
We expect LG to announce pricing and release date details at its event. In the LG G4, the Korean manufacturer introduced manual modes for still photos, advertised to be a favorite among more professional photographers. The LG V10 uses more or less the same Snapdragon 808 platform as their LG G4 smartphone.
The LG V10 has improved video-editing and sharing features, so users can promptly post their videos on social-networking services. Another stand-out feature is its pair of 5-megapixel selfie cameras. The device can selectively record sounds, a feature that can be utilized at concerts.
The phone’s frame is made from 316L stainless steel and the back made from Dura Guard, a silicone-like material that can absorb shock like no other device when the phone’s dropped?
The phone runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset combined with 4GB LPDDR3 RAM and is packed with 64 GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, half the battery can be topped up in 40 minutes thanks to Quick Charge 2.0, and the fact that it’s removable also means it’s easy to swap in a second battery if you’re in a squeeze.
The device will be available for sale in South Korea on October 8 through the country’s three mobile carriers and gradually expand to other markets.
