LG to launch LCD 4K TVs equipped with ‘HDR-Plus’ capability
The UHD Alliance, an industry group formed of 35 companies including Dolby, LG, Netflix, Panasonic and Samsung, announced at CES 2016 in Las Vegas that it has now decided on the standards – and the logo – that will clarify Ultra High Definition “Premium” home video for consumers.
LG is clearly confident and boasting about the new top of the line models. 4K UHD TVs from additional Roku TV partners are expected to be available this year, Roku said. Both the UH8500 (55 to 75 inches) and UH9500 (55 to 86 inches) series from LG has been featured with filters and LCD phosphors to reach about 90% of the Digital Cinema Initiative’s expanded color range. For example, OLED55E6V and OLED65E6V are the FLOLED televisions that will go on sale in the United Kingdom and Europe. LG UH9500 and UH9550 feature IPS display panels with technologies like True Black Panel to minimize reflection and Contrast Maximizer for more contrast and depth. All the three series will have color reproduction enhancing ColorPrime Plus technology. The company opened a new era of innovation in the TV market, pioneering the use of OLED technology in home theater displays and implementing an intuitive operating system to allow customers to experience the full benefits of smart TV technology.
But the program isn’t limited to just TVs; it sets minimum specifications and requirements for other 4K, or ultra-high-def, devices, such as Ultra HD Blu-ray players, as well as 4K content and services.
Pricing for these models has yet to be announced.
2016 carnival, LG is coming up with spectacular new feature in its TV services.
Even more than 4K, there’s not a lot of content that takes advantage of HDR as yet. Now forget all the hype about 4K and welcome the new highlights of the first production-grade 8K model, the UH9800.
LG claims that all UHD TVs in the 2016 line-up give the appearance of the TV floating in the air thanks to the ultra-thin 6.6mm screen depth and near invisible bezels. The on-board speakers were designed in coordination with Harman/Kardon which is promising considering its sound quality. LG will release further information at an official press conference on January 5th from Las Vegas, just days before the Consumer Electronics Show.
Perhaps more interesting to those of us outside the United States is the announcement that Roku has released a reference TV design so that its TV partners can incorporate HDR technology into future sets.
