LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE has a hardware issue, sales halted
Verizon was scheduled to put the device up for sale starting tomorrow. At this point in time we are not sure if LG will reintroduce the watch in the future, but for now you probably won’t be able to find one out there.
The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE was not only LG’s big flagship smartwatch for 2015, but it was also the only Android Wear device to support cellular connectivity and the center of Google’s announcement last Wednesday.
Only a week after its launch by AT&T, LG is stopping all sales of the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE smartwatch. “For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase”. So it’s not entirely clear if the watch has been permanently canceled or just delayed… but LG is using the word “canceled” in regards to the launch.
If we’re being honest, it seemed odd that LG would release a watch with standalone calling capabilities in the first place, as smartwatches with similar features haven’t proven to be particularly popular in the past.
On the Google Store in the USA, you can now buy a Huawei Watch, a ZenWatch 2, a Moto 360 second or first gen, Sony’s SmartWatch 3, or the original LG Watch Urbane. In fact, AT&T is already offering refunds to customers while Verizon will reportedly not ship the watch to those who have made pre-orders.
