LG will announce two new Flagships in 2016
Overall in 2015, the company shipped about 600,000 more smartphones than in 2014, with 59.7 million in total this year.
“The smartphone marketplace is expected to be increasingly competitive in 2016 due to anticipated premium models from competitors and further price competition within the mass tier space”, an LG statement, part of its most recent financial results, said.
We were expecting the LG G5 to be the company’s flagship smartphone in 2016, although LG have now revealed that they will release two new flagship smartphones this year. The company may also revamp their mid-range lineup as they are said to introduce a more “cost-competitive” value chain as well.
Although it consistently launches some of the best smartphones in the industry, it looks like LG’s mobile division is having problems with improving shipment figures and maintaining profitability. They includes two flagships along with a value chain of devices.
LG announced its Q4 2015 earnings this morning and revealed that although the company as a whole saw growth and profitability, the mobile division made a loss.
The budget phone range has been where LG has done quite well historically, hitting the third spot in the Australian market with their L series phones, however we’ve seen other vendors take that place in the last couple of years.
LG may continue to see robust smartphone sales, but it’s also feeling the pressure from rivals in the highly congested mobile market. However, the V10 was launched towards the end of the year, so we don’t think it had any bearing on the final count.
