LGBT+ film Moonlight wins best drama at the Golden Globes
The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards aired last night and quite a few stars of color took home trophies. Viola Davis, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, won “Best Supporting Actress” for her role in the acclaimed movie Fences.
Ryan Gosling accepted his award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) in honor of his wife, Eva Mendes.
Eva Mendes might have skipped the 2017 Golden Globes, but her presence was certainly felt during Ryan Gosling’s touching acceptance speech.
The whimsical musical “La La Land” broke the record books with its haul of seven prizes – the highest number of Golden Globes for any film including best actor and actress in the comedy section. We bet they were on the couch at home with Mom, who was probably tearing up watching her husband’s lovely speech.
Ryan Gosling, Best Actor victor in Comedy-Musical, recognised partner Eva Mendes’ contribution in a moving speech.
“The movie touches people because they see the authenticity that we put into it”. Thank you, mom, for everything.
He said: “Sweetheart, thank you, to my daughters Amada and Esmeralda, I love you”.
After praising Eva at the Globes, Gosling told “Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli backstage about his family, “I was just grateful to have an opportunity to thank them publicly”.
The industry has been criticized in recent years for a lack of diversity on screen, behind cameras and especially at award ceremonies.
Full victor list of the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards in movie category has been unveiled.
There was a shock in the best actress in a drama category, where Natalie Portman was expected to pick up the award for her intense turn as Jackie Kennedy in Jackie. It landed the best comedy award for Atlanta, which its programme making arm, FX Productions, makes. But the Globes, to be handed out Sunday by the 90-odd members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, have two Best Picture categories, one for musical/comedy and the other for drama.
“People respect the fact that I’m not trying to make a story that relates to you and your place”, Jenkins explained to reporters.
