Lindsey Graham Exiting Presidential Race
With Graham leaving the race, that leaves 13 candidates for the Republican nomination, ABC News reported.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who announced Monday that he was suspending his campaign for president.
In a video posted on his Web page, the SC senator, whose support in polls of likely voters was practically at zero, according to the Real Clear Politics Web site, said that he was suspending his campaign.
Explaining his decision to exit the race, Graham pointed to the debate process, in which low-polling candidates were confined to an “undercard” debate without the major contenders. He noted his emphasis on national security and improving the nation’s balance sheet, saying he “put forth bold and practical solutions to big problems”. “I have offered a detailed plan to win a war we can not afford to lose and to turn back the tide of isolationism that has been rising in the Republican party”, he said. “I believe we have run a campaign we can be proud of”, Graham said.
Many Republicans are anxious because the people who would made a good difference for them are falling to the wayside for people like Donald Trump.
“At that time no-one stepped forward to join me”, he said. On Sunday evening, Graham said in an interview that he would compromise with Hillary Clinton if she won the presidency – though he stated he didn’t want the former Secretary of State to win.
The latest polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, and SC never gave the Graham campaign much to brag about. In his announcement, Graham claimed credit for moving fellow GOP candidates to more hawkish positions over the last four months.
“Republicans lost our most qualified, thoughtful, fearless and honest presidential candidate”, said Graham’s close friend and colleague in the Senate, John McCain of Arizona. Graham add that Trump “doesn’t represent my party” and that Trump is “the ISIL man of the year”.
Graham was never popular, even with his lunatic Republican constituents. Graham, about to enter the crowded GOP field of presidential hopefuls, has announced he’s retiring from the Air Force Reserve.
Meanwhile, Graham and the mainstream conservatives who supported him are now free to endorse a candidate with a chance at winning.
