Line of storms racing across Texas heading toward Louisiana
In preparation for the storms, schools in southern Louisiana and southern MS have closed.
In Mississippi, forecasters say strong tornadoes could form south of the Interstate 20 corridor. We continue to monitor the threat for severe storms late Tuesday night.
After a much-needed soaking in southeast Texas Monday morning, attention now turns to the threat for severe weather early Tuesday morning as a potent storm system intensifies over the state.
The National Weather Service says four tornadoes touched down throughout south Alabama when severe storms hit the state February 16. At this time, it looks like the best chance for severe weather, if any, will be in the morning and early afternoon.
“Showers and storms are expected today and tomorrow before cooler weather on Wednesday”, according to WWL TV Meteorologist Laura Buchtel on the forecast for the metro area. With high winds aloft and changing direction with height, this leaves the possibility for storms to rotate, as well as maintaining the storm. The severe storms should move east of Houston by midday.
As the cold front pushes through, storms will come to an end through the afternoon with a few lingering showers into Tuesday night before clearing out Wednesday. These storms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. This is for the threats of wind, hail and minor flooding. The weather service in Mobile issued a wind advisory that will go into effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday for southwest Alabama.
It will be a wet Monday across the WAFB viewing area, but it is just the dress-rehearsal for a far more active weather day on Tuesday.
