Lionel Richie to launch Las Vegas residency next year
As the name of the residency implies, “Lionel Richie – All The Hits” will be filled with other favorite Lionel Richie tunes. The 20-date party at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino begins in April, with tickets going on sale this week. Richie said he was excited for the Las Vegas run because it gives him the opportunity to do, basically, anything he wants on stage. Richie is following in the footsteps of Strip residency pioneer Celine Dion and her fellow Caesars Palace Colosseum headliners Rod Stewart and Shania Twain. He is scheduled to kick it off on April 27. Richie’s catchy tunes once dominated the pop charts, from party numbers such as All Night Long to heart-rending ballads such as Three Times a Lady. Lionel’s show is called Lionel Richie – All the Hits, and as the title suggests, that’s just what fans will get, from “All Night Long” and “Stuck on You” to “Say You Say Me”, “Hello”, and “Dancing on the Ceiling”. See the current list of performance dates (all 2016) below.
Richie’s most recent album was his first trip to the country music world with 2012’s Tuskegee. Now, if I stop during nearly any song, the crowd is nearly always singing louder than I am.
The honor celebrates not just musical achievement but also charitable contributions.
He told the LA Times newspaper: “My 21-year-old son, I said to him, “Miles, what do you think about me playing Vegas?”
